On this next to last day
2025 SOL Challenge,
This is a reminder:
Whether you're a brother or
Whether you're a mother
You're staying alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha ha ha stayin' alive.....
It had been a while
Decades, in fact.
I have never used it,
Not the newer "community"
Nor the older "breathing"
Models of doing it.
Nor do I plan to ever.
The protocol did not change.
The video was still blurry
The presenters still trying
The topic very serious
The practice "dummy"
Still legless and unreactive,
Still clad in a warm-up.
Yet, I am confident
If I had to do it
If I absolutely had to
I could use an AED
I could use an AED
In an hour.

You inspire me to want to brush up on my CPR. I took a class in a mini course in 7th grade, and so it's been awhile....I'm nearing 60, so that card has long since expired. I love how you blended a 70s song (the best music era EVER, EVER, EVER) and gave it a whole new context to saving a life.
I last was recertified in January 2024 and often wonder if I had to really do it would my old body be able to. I hope that adrenaline would kick in and get me doing those chest compressions in just the right rhythm.
Anita,
If you want me to feel guilty for not being CPR certified, I do. And I know watching The Pitt does not substitute for training. 😞 Clever use of the Bee Gees song, my friend.
Anita, that introduction was so fun! I was singing along wondering where this post was going. Then it got more serious, and I felt confident because of it. My sister in law and brother just got certified. It's been a long time since I've done it, but I think you and they have motivated me to get the training again. Thanks.
I am cracking up at the dummy description: "Still legless and unreactive,
Still clad in a warm-up" - hilariously and unfortunately true! What a great PSA to invite more of us to be ready to help save lives.
Good timing, Anita, regarding CPR/AED. Mary Lynne and I just completed our class and became certified. Just like that spare tire in your car, we hope we never really have to use it but it’s very reassuring to know that we are presently up-to-date.
