It's night before it's afternoon.
December is here before it's June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon?” Seuss
I always think of Seuss on these really dark days when the Christmas lights are still few and far between and the Hanukkah candles are still waiting for their chance to shine. The darkness steals minutes of precious sunlight each day and to be honest, it can be pretty depressing.
Yet, the the prolonged hours of darkness also yield magical moments of nature-provided beauty in the morning as well as in the evening, if keep your mind and your eyes open to the show.
"Look at that sky," she screeched, "it's so happy the day is over, it is putting on a light show!" I'm reminded, on so many levels, perspective matters.

Perspective indeed! I love this so much, that the sky is so happy it's putting on a light show. I am probably in that sweeping minority of loving the early darkness - - probably because I am such a morning person. I sleep better all winter because I start slowing down earlier in the evening - relaxing and calling it a day when nature says it's time to settle in. I do feel a sense of sadness for the children who can't get out and play after school for very long, but I also know their time is coming in the spring - when it warms up and there is plenty more to discover in the outdoors.
I think I need to do some writing this am about perspective, and I love the idea of sunsets inspiring perspectives! I already talked about Wicked this morning and the element of perspectives and other stories. I love your post!
Oh, I love that perspective and am so glad you shared it. I'm always stunned by how a minor change in one's lens can dramatically effect one's experience in the world. Here's to appreciating the light that's highlighted by the dark!
Driving home last night, the sky was beautiful with its blues, oranges, and purples. I wish I had a place to pull over and take a picture. The early darkness does offer its own kind of beauty to the world. arjeha
I'm dazzled by your granddaughter’s observations and words. What a lovely way to look at the sunset!
I absolutely LOVE a winter sky. An early sunset. A gray snowy day. That wasn't always the case (especially when I was teaching), but as I get older I can see the beauty in all that darkness. And your granddaughter's perspective is just magical!
Love the sheer joy and appreciation of your granddaughter's words.
And love this reflection:
""Yet, the the prolonged hours of darkness also yield magical moments of nature-provided beauty in the morning as well as in the evening, if keep your mind and your eyes open to the show."
Gratitude, an open mind seeking beauty and nature are a powerful combination.
I had forgotten Seuss! I love your granddaughter's insight on the night sky - so pink and perfect - definitely a light show!
It IS hard to deal with all of the darkness during winter, and that makes me thankful I live in the southern lower 48! Out of the mouths of Babes...love your grand daughter's perception, as I live to watch every single sunrise and sunset whenever possible. The beauty and inspiration created at those transitional times...
