I am sharing with writing friends from the Two Writing Teachers Slice of Life Group today. I am struggling with threats and abuses of power that weigh heavy on my heart.
If
I could
Live again
I would not fill
A single day with
Anger, hatred, spite, scorn,
Jealousy, grudges,
Virulence, dread,
Resentment
Mean words
If
Only I
Could

In her sermon a few months ago, our priest asked us “If we had the peace that passes all understanding, what would that look like?” A profound question for our times. I think your poem speaks to that idea. We have to bring peace into our own lives before we can spread it to others. Thanks for writing today.
I FELT THIS POEM, Anita!
I've found that cancer has made me slow down and approach every day with a different softness.
Well, Anita, you are a better person than I am. I think I’d fill my days w/ more righteous indignation for the downtrodden and against the privileged if I had life to do over.
Every day is a chance to get it right, Anita. Isn't that the best we've got? I keep the poem, "Dawn Revisited," by Rita Dove posted right in front of me with these opening lines to inspire:"Imagine you wake up/ with a second chance..." Yes, just that!
I think many of us would like a second chance. A chance to do better and be better. I wonder how many would change if they were given the opportunity. Your poem speaks to the kind of person we should all strive to be. Arjeha
Anita, I like imagining a life without grudges and spite. I think our shoulders would be stronger, metaphorically anyway. Here's to peace, love and kindness in all our remaining days!
