February 26: As Winter Gives Way

On Monday, as a State of Emergency kept everyone at home this gigantic snow-person was born. I have been driving past every day watching the clearly forlorn creature.

Kids, did you forget about me?
What happened to your mittens, snow pants?
Remember the fun we had on Monday with all the snow?
Did you forget about the shovels, ladders, flowers from the table?
Did you know I've been hanging out waiting for you?

Where have you been all day?
Can't you stop and play today?
Why are you just wearing sweatshirts?
Did you notice I seem to be shrinking, fading away?

It is not easy to be a late-season-snow-person
As winter gives way reluctantly to spring.

Haha! So cute. I love the questions of the forlorn snow person! The photo is perfect too. The children in sweatshirts with hardly a glance to the late comer.

Poor snow person! Such fun in the creation, but so quickly forgotten and melted.

Anita, such a fabulous image and an equally impressive response from you as a poet. Congratulations on both counts. Writers react and capture fleeting moments other merely pass by.

Oh gosh I can't believe you got even that much snow in that storm! Lafayette was bone dry last weekend when we visited! Poor Snowman!!

I love this giant snow person but am sad that he has to melt into the yard as sunshine, warmth, and springtime near.

Oh I love "late season snow person" :) We are so done with winter around here, but I'd have room in my heart for a snow person.
