I am doing what teachers everywhere (I think) do at the mid point of the summer. I'm thinking about what I have done, what I need to do, and what I really want to do! The horrific events of this week and the pervasive sadness I've felt for months have contributed to a more reflective me. In fact, this list poem crept into my head as I tried to write about cleaning my car! I see a message here, clear as a sunny day.
Have Done
Cleaned pantry
Cleaned car
Read Pathway to Common Core
Read Babymouse for President
Need To
Set up classroom
Clean office
Write syllabi
Chose new text for course
Want To
Walk on the beach at sunrise
Laugh with my children
Have a family gathering to celebrate life
Give my mother a reason to smile
Pray in great cathedrals
Make memories

Yes, a want to list, high priority! Thanks for the reminder
Now make the want to list a part of the have to list. :-)
Oh Anita, I'm going to make my own lists. I loved reading yours. As the school year edges closer, I find my brain is piling up the list of things I want to do before I jump back into the fray. Thanks for setting some priorities!
The construction of lists in your poem made me reflect on my own priorities. My want to do list, like yours, shows what is really essential. Yet what I choose to complete in some ways shows what I value. This has me thinking Anita!
I hope you concentrate on your WANT list because at the end of the day that's what is really important! Good luck.
Your post has me realizing I really do have a beefy "have done" list, and there is still time to concentrate on my "want to" and it's okay if my "need to" stays small for the moment.
I love the addition of the "want to" list! That is just perfect. I need to work on that - enjoy completing that list!
At least I know that I'm not alone.
Those a re such precious things that you want to do - and the most important of your list! Hope you are able to do them all|!
A Want To Do List? Brilliant! Is it sad to think that I want a system to keep me on track with my 'want to do's? I worry that my 'to do's get way too much priority.
Love your lists. Keep working on the "want to's," because they are the important stuff. The others can wait!
Someone wrote about a bucket list for summer which inspired me to spend time on my want to do list as well as the need to list. Now I'm off to check out my file of fun stuff to do so I can squeeze in a few more before summer's end.
I think the "want" list is the most important...
My summer ends next Friday. I have tried to get in those want-to things this year. But there's never enough summer for me to get them all n! I love the way you reflected on all these things. I agree with the others. Work on those want to's as they are the things that really matter
