I get on, gingerly,
Holding tight.
Grateful that moving steps
Carry me down the cliff,
I try not to look up, too far,
Or down, too far,
Slowly, into the deep abyss
Where shining engines
Sparkling cars carry
Throngs of people.
This modern, space age looking,
Station
Lies in stark contrast
To most of the city's aging subways.
So, I hang on tight
And try to enjoy the ride.

Your post made me smile...and almost make me think I miss riding the subway! I enjoyed the ride.
Your post, as did to Catherine, reminded me of my own rides on different subways. I definitely like better to take buses (if I am not in a hurry and have a sit, especially the one next to the window :). These days, people read, no books but their phones. The chances that they gently give up their sits are getting slimmer.
Thank you for sharing! It reminded me of my first time riding the subway and the anxiety I felt as we went deep underground to reach the car.
Couldn't help but remember the time the escalator was out on a Paris subway. And we walked up because the line for the elevator was so long! My family still laughs about it (I'm not a fan of climbing).
I don't recognize this? Is it the Second Avenue Subway (which I still haven't ridden, but man do I wish it had been around when I lived on 87th and 3rd!) or something entirely different?
Yes, it's the Second Avenue line. This is at 96th St. It's crazy different than the rest of the city.
