SOL 10: Winds of Change

It was VERY windy the last few nights.  As I lay in bed, listening to the wind blow, I was thinking of the MANY changes every day that we all experience:
Our personal children start out as totally dependent but then change to individuals who only "need" us at fleeting moments of extreme happiness or stress.
Our parents start as our caregivers but then depend on us more and more.
At school, the children take on more and more responsibility for their own learning.
There's APPR, CCSS and RtI and other lenses to scrutinize and reflect on professional practice.
Technology increasingly becomes part of what we do and teach.
Writing is changing as we can get support and build community from afar!

Change is hard and often we miss the comfort of what we knew; yet, as they say in
Lion King, "It's the circle of  life."

All those tests ... they don't make our students "writers" in that they seem themselves as writers, you know? They see themselves as "test takers." This is an old complaint from us teachers and parents, but it is true. I'm glad you are taking part in Slice of Life this year. Thank you for your comment and kind words this morning. It's nice to know our words can have some impact out there in the world.
Sincerely,
Kevin

You and I must be at the same stage of life. Your imagery of all those changes feeling like the winds of time really resonates with me. I need wind gear!

The older I get, the harder change seems to be for me. You said it so well, and it's nice to know we're all sharing in the changes.

Nicely put. Life is change. Part of what we try to instill in children is resilience, perseverance through change, through the unexpected. Thanks for sharing.
