#Slice of Life 2103 Joining of the Clans

There is more to Irish heritage than Guiness and corned beef.
It's bigger than the biggest parade or a bar on St. Paddy's Day,
It's more than endless freckles and sun cancer prone skin,
It's more powerful than a cohort of step dancers

Yesterday, my ancestors were smiling,
As one of our own,
Small clan of Dineens
With distant roots in County Cork
Joined the Lynch Clan
To celebrate, dance, and acknowledge
The power of family.

I couldn't help but think of this song.....
As the sun came out
Warming our hearts
Reminding us that life goes on

When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.
When Irish hearts are happy,
All the world seems bright and gay.
And when Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they steal your heart away.
For the springtime of life Is the sweetest of all
There is ne'er a real care or regret;
And while springtime is ours
Throughout all of youth's hours,
Let us smile each chance we get.

I love this post! My grandmother (dad's mum) is from south of Dublin. I enjoy the way you write - very vivid and full of rich imagery.

What a beautiful reminder that our cultures are comprised of more than just what people see on the outside. I've never heard that song before, but it made me think of the Irish culture from a different perspective.

I love the rhythm of your words as they dance on the page.

Love your post. I've only scratched the surface of my Irish ancestry...inspired me to dig deeper. Like Diana said your words dance on the page.

I was at a "Cheris the Ladies" concert not too long ago - your post captured the joy and high spirits of that evening. "When Irish eyes are smiling"...the world does seem a happier place!
