#SliceofLife2013 The Vows

"Do you remember the three ways to make the /k/ sound?" I was saying to the students as an administrator made her way into the room for the "walk-through" to assess my effectiveness.  Hands waved eagerly, oblivious, or so I thought, to the "boss" lurking nearby.  I eagerly asked another question, confident they knew the answer, "What do we call a, e, i, o, and u?"  Their hands again waved eagerly.

"Vows," she said confidently.  "Vows make their sound when they are all alone in a word or they say their name when they have a partner."  While I did not think they knew anyone was watching, one student had already surmised his audience and eagerly shared, "VOWS are very important!"

Yes indeed, VOWS are important and powerful.  The vows to protect and defend doctors and lawyers take as well as the vows those in our armed forces make.  There are also vows to love, honor and cherish.  Those VOWS represented by pink Wilson cards are powerful, too.  Change one VOW and you have a whole new perspective!

From the mouths of babes ...great wisdom.
fin - fan - fun
win - wine - went
ham - him - hem - hum - hohum
big - bag - beg - bog - bug - Gabe - gab

Ha, ha, ha! Love it! This is cracking me up. I had a speech student the other day that called them "bowels".

CLEVER! I like "vows" a lot more than "bowels! " I wish we all got to do nonthreatening walk-throughs. We could enjoy and learn from each other 's classes, teaching styles, and use of resources. :)

Your multiple perspectives on VOWS were very EFFECTIVE. In all cases, they are oh so significant.
