#sol15 March 3 Flowers, Jewels and Tractors

"I can't believe you don't have a delay," he mumbled pulling on his woollies and layering on the sweats as I watched the morning traffic report while gulping down some coffee.

"Looks like were going to try to have a full day even if everyone else delayed" I mumbled under my breath.  "The main roads look OK.

I am not sure if he shook his head or mumbled something under his breath, as I was hurriedly throwing together a salad that I had foolishly not made the night before.  "It'll be at least a delayed opening," I had assured myself (foolishly) as the snow was piling up in the driveway.

He disappeared moments later and I heard the familiar sound of our tractor scraping the snow from the driveway.  I finished layering on my woolen socks and my warmest coat and headed out into the cold.

As I emerged into the cold darkness, he was at the top of the driveway, as if he were waiting for me.  "Want a ride down to your car?" he asked, laughing, as if he thoroughly enjoyed getting up early and heading into the cold for an early morning tractor ride!

I thought about walking down the slippery slope vs. riding on the tractor.  It was an easy decision.  I've slip-slided my way down the driveway too many times of late.  I took advantage of the "tractor-taxi."

As I warmed up the car, he cleared the foot of snow off the car so I could drive to school.

In the decades we've been together, there have been few bouquets of flowers and candle-lit-dinners.  Yet, as I drove to work on yet another snowy, icy, icky morning, I was grateful that I look at romance in a much broader sense than found in the movies.

Central Message: Somebody should make a movie about things that REALLY make you smile on a snowy morning!

True romance is moments like this - it takes love to know what really counts, and what is just "nice to have". You are lucky!

A colleague said the same thing to me this morning: "I can't believe we didn't have a delay." I shared w/ him how my husband followed me to work just to make sure my Mustang made it up the mountain. Sounds as though you have someone in your life much like my husband. :-)

The title, rich in contrast, is what drew me in! I was trying to imagine what on earth would combine tractors, jewels, and flowers - which you managed to do perfectly!

Amen to real romance and love an active verb! What a trooper.
