#sol24 April 9 Better Than the Eclipse

It seems as if THE eclipse
Was the highlight of the day,
Perhaps the week.
It really was memorable,
A testament to the power of nature
To create beauty.
Yet,

A phone call made my day, week, perhaps my year,
We talked and we listened
About people and happenings in our lives.
About wonderful and devastating things,
About possibilities and accepting
What we cannot change.

We have talked rarely in the last decade,
We've had harsh words, unkind thoughts,
Yet, "old" friends somehow
Pick up where they left off,
In spite of time, changes, emotions,
Leaving barriers in the dust.

Anita,
Reconnecting with an old friend is better than a two-minute event when it touches your heart so profoundly. I hope you and your friend nurture your relationship so that another ten years don’t pass before you speak again.

Anita, your poem is powerful. It is so sweet to be reconnected with someone who we haven't got to see enough of. Sometimes when I'm able to get together with an old friend, it is like we've never been apart. The knocked down barriers says it all!

What a beautiful moment you've captured. As Glenda said--better than a two-minute event.

I love the juxtaposition of what everyone says “should” be this major event with a minor event that is, in fact, major and impactful! How wonderful that you were able to reconnect with an old friend after so long, picking right back up where you left off. There’s nothing like it.

Sounds like the phone call eclipsed the eclipse!

Anita, that is much better than the eclipse. I had a similar experience about ten years ago, a long time friend came back into my life and we picked up right where we had left off after some tough experiences. I like the way you formatted your post, and I have to say an amen to Mary Lee's comment! :)

So many wonderful lines in this poem of reconnection, Anita - talking of "wonderful and devastating things" and "leaving barriers in the dust". What an incredible gift, this call that eclipsed the eclipse!

"Leaving barriers in the dust" is my favorite line, those walls that divided just easily stepped over for you now. Thanks for sharing such an intimate, joyful event with us!

An eclipse is a fleeting moment in time. One to experience and then it is gone. Old friendships are to be savored. They last when many other things fade.
