February 5: Every One Matters

Today, I am sharing with Spiritual Journey, a new-for-me-to-share group; however, I have long been on a spiritual journey, Today's prompt asks us to think about our attitude and consider this quote by Dalai Lama, “Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.”

It was cold, again, this morning and I really was thinking of skipping aquacise in favor of a second cup of coffee and another chapter or two; however, I had offered to to drive a friend and didn't want to leave her hanging.  It was still single digits when she got into the car and sighed, "I would not have come if I had not agreed to go with you."

Now, we could have just bagged the pool plan and headed to the local coffee house; however, we headed to our destination where the real fun began. We played with pool noodles rather than belts and kick boards rather than weights. Time flew by as we laughed, sighed and sang happy birthday to a friend, because every one matters. Somehow, the sun was shining as we looked forward to the rest of the day and the days ahead.

We almost missed it!
A memorable gathering
On a frigid morning.
We almost missed the reminder!
Every one matters.
Everyone matters.

They certainly do matter. But sometimes we forget we matter too. if you weren't there, the day would not have been as good for your friends.Good for you for hanging in there.

Anita, I am glad you are joining us today. The day may have started out cold, but it warmed up, figuratively if not in actuality, because you chose to do something for a friend as well as yourself. A simple act can change our whole outlook for the day. Bob

Anita, welcome to SJT! I quoted you in my post today.
Ohh, it's hard to go to swim class when it's bitter cold. Kudos to you and your friend for making the effort and for the way it impacted your day.

Anita, it's great to have you here. Welcome! I'm so glad you and your friend got each other to your aquacise class. I like how you wrote "every one" and "everyone" in the last two lines. It slowed me down and gave it more thought and attention.

Anita, I am so glad you're here. Your words are always encouraging and uplifting. The world needs more of that. I decided that would be the goal of my blog when I started it years ago. Your reference to the Dalai Lama's quote about a positive thought changing one's whole day reminds me of a song I encountered years ago, regarding the mindset of pioneers and farmers facing their hardships: "There's gold in the farm, boys, if only you'll shovel it out." This phrase returns to me often as needed incentive, I think, to keep making the effort to press on on through what's hard and uncomfortable, to keep finding the gold nuggets along the way, knowing that greater treasure lies on ahead. I can see you looking at your single-digits on the thermometer...but the pressing on through the harsh cold was worth it! It's a great and timely message.
