My grands are growing like weeds after a summer rain and helping me see life from a new perspective. While I am still not a fan of video games, I am starting to see food dropped on the floor in a new light. Here is the explanation that helped me differentiate when to eat and when to toss.
He picked up a little piece of chocolate, the kind designed for snacking, from the floor, blew it off, and popped it into his mouth faster than you could say, "Don't eat that."
"Ugh," I moaned, "it's yucky." I meant it.
"It's OK," he mumbled as he finished chewing, "there's a 3 second rule for most food but a 30 second rule for chocolate!"
"I've never heard that one," I said and I meant it!

He and I could be friends. At LEAST a 30 second rule! Love that for him, as well as the moment you captured.
I must confess - I'm with Melanie on the chocolate rule. Pick it up, give it a good brushing for any dirt or dog hair, and enjoy! It's a great rule to abide by.
All rules get thrown out the window where chocolate is concerned. Around here, the rule is pick up any dropped food before the cat eats it. arjeha

That’s a cute rule, one I imagine lots of kids would love. I let the particular floor and availability of a sink determine whether or not the three second rule applies. Generally, it does not.
This was so cute and funny, Anita! I dropped various food many a time. Most of the time they can't be saved, but certain stuff (like chocolate) can. Well unless it doesn't start melting then it's good haha.
I hadn't heard that version of the 3 second rule, but I'm totally in favor of it! Smart grandchild!
I like the way that grandchild is thinking. He understands an important thing in life. Rules sometimes need to be flexible and sensible. First of all, the germs are on the food instantly, so who cares if it's 3 seconds or 30. I like the magic poof of blowing off the bad stuff.

Haha! I like the 30 second rule for chocolate. I might have a 30-minute rule for chocolate. Once upon a time, we had a "cool" junior higher at our house. I couldn't believe when he dropped something in our kitchen, picked it up and popped it in his mouth, saying 3-second rule. I just thought he was too cool for that, but I liked it.
