It's February and like the herds of other pathetic grandmothers who never ever got their own children gifts for Valentine's Day, I was thinking of a gift basket for my grands as I grabbed a few things at Shop Rite. I was planning on fruit, nuts, and some treats when the 23ounce box of Goldfish, on the endcap with the sale sticker, caught my eye.
Thinking, "What a cool idea,"
Tossing the box in the cart before
Stopping in my tracks while
Reading the sign closely
Pondering what the sign meant
Questioning if the sign matched
Rethinking that snack food
Reconsidering its artificial ingredients
Guessing the impact of high prices
Supposing many will not be
Buying that age-old junk food
Selling for just $9.99 rather than $11.39
Conjecturing that they/we all will be
Eating healthier treats, perhaps?
Speculating about Pepperidge Farm's future?
Thinking perhaps a bin of ants on logs*?

I just mailed heart stickers inside cards to my grandkids! They also love goldfish but can't buy them in Den Haag where they live. The Netherlands is serious about only sellling healthy snacks. But when they visit me, I definitely buy them goldfish! I support unhealthy treats, in moderation!
I knew the Harry Potter variety of Goldfish was expensive, but I had no idea the regular goldfish had gone up in price. That's astonishing! Everything, it seems, feels out of reach these days in terms of prices.
Haha, Anita, I love the sweet ideas in your post. First, how you are getting the grands Valentine's gifts. I like how you go back and forth a bit on the wisdom of getting the big carton of Goldfish. Fun post, which makes me think about getting something for my little grandsons!
Gah! I'm amazed at how expensive everything has gotten.
I love the gift basket idea for the grandkids.
My parents never gave me Valentine's Day gifts. My husband's family had the tradition of buying each other some kind of candy on Valentine's Day. Therefore, I've adopted that and put sweet treats on everyone's placemats the night before Valentine's Day so they can wake up to their favorite chocolates.
Whoops! I forgot to leave my name. The above comment was from me.
It is hard to pass up what we perceive to be a bargain. Knowing me, I wouldn’t pass it up. Out of consideration to others, I would take it upon myself to eat what wasn’t doled out. As kids, we never got Valentine candy. Kathy and I use to buy things for each other but no longer do. We don’t need anything. Arjeha
