#sol21 March 1, Day1 Why, are you doing this?

As I set my computer up with dates and SOL images for the week, I asked my self why?

I can think of lots of reasons not to do this.
  • I am teaching 2 really tough online (virtual) grad school classes with endless papers to read, grades to insert, and slides to develop.
  • I am trying to develop a new course for a new audience this summer, which is weeks away.
  • I am "doing" online (virtual) kindergarten with one of my grandchildren and "teaching" the "3s" program for another grandchild.
  • I am picking up Legos, searching for socks, reading Mercy Watson, working on puzzles, practicing handwriting, searching for the floor, and I will soon be running behind bikes!
  • I am sad, lots of the time, as I want to hug, play with, cook for, laugh with, and celebrate other grandchildren who are growing and changing and learning without my constant touch during this challenging pandemic season.
  • I am feeling down, lots of days, as I think about my lost year(s) of travel and connections with family and friends.
  • I am worried about the impact of this year on small businesses, state budgets, and most importantly, our students whose educational and social experiences have been turned upside down
  • I am really trying to exercise daily and get back into some sort of shape to counteract the effects of this year of going no where, seeing no one, and doing nothing, but eating.
  • I am spending hours and hours and hours each week searching for a vaccine site.
  • I cannot let any of my jobs "down" during this month of reading and writing....
I almost talked my self out of a month of writing a couple of times because the colliding memories of last year's SOL season and the beginning of this long, crazy year were just too much....it's been a whole year....but then......

I remembered
  • I cannot let any of my jobs down but I can give up the worrying and fretting and that will make a few hours each week!
  • I can think about blog posts and even take a pad along was I head for daily walks. Perhaps I can even write about exercising....
  • The amazing feeling of belonging to a community that explodes as writers each March as bloggers come out of their slumber and new bloggers, bright and eager, test the waters.
  • The lift that seeing comments on your blog always gives. I still remember the first...

Computer crashing is on my list of worst possible scenarios. It looks like you've handled the change over easily. I started on this journey last year to live as a writer since I was working with teachers on writing. It does change one.(in a good way)

  • The joy of finding new friends and connecting with others who have been around for the last decade or more!
  • The way writing every day helps me notice and appreciate the small moments of everyday life.
  • The way writing every day creates memories that would otherwise be lost to time.
  • The way writing every day makes me think and feel like a writer...
  • Perhaps, I do need to start this new year by wrapping up the old year!
So here's to the Challenge to Write Every Day in March!

Our first posts are so similar, but maybe you ARE too busy! No, I don’t mean that- I am so glad you decided to write this March.
I also miss my grandchildren and travel, but I smiled at the picture of you doing Kindergarten as well as college, and picking up legos and soon- ah, blessed spring- running behind bikes! I think that’s my favorite line.

The list of why not to write is an easy one to make. The list of why to write has strong and meaningful reasons. I am glad you are writing.

Oh, I'm glad you're here. What a busy and full life you're living right now.
I love these reasons to write -
"The way writing every day helps me notice and appreciate the small moments of everyday life.
The way writing every day creates memories that would otherwise be lost to time.
The way writing every day makes me think and feel like a writer..."
Putting them in my notebook now!

This: The way writing every day helps me notice and appreciate the small moments of everyday life.

This is beautiful and such a way to count the blessings!

I loved reading your lists! Like you, I was brainstorming a million reasons NOT to do SOLSC this year. I really enjoyed reading how you reframed your thinking in your second list- it reminded me of Angela Watson's newest podcast episode "Good things ARE happening...". Thank you for sharing!
