#SOL22 March 6 Sincerely, Thank You

Admittedly, I had lots on my mind,
My heart a bit unsure, concerned.
I was shopping without a list,
Had to go back for beans, potatoes.
The cashier was super efficient,
So I had to bag fast.
The line behind me long,
So I was rushing.
I was finishing putting bags in the car
As the super efficient cashier
Came running out to find me
And, return my credit card.
She didn't have to do that,
But I sincerely thank you.

You set the stage for the ending interaction both with the teaser and the build up of the stress. How is that grocery store interactions can get a person so sweaty-- I can completely relate!

Glad you have your cc safely back in the wallet and ready for the next expenditure!

Reading this, I smiled, and wondered if you were to print the poem and leave it for the cashier or their manager one day. I imagine they might be deeply moved at your gratitude, enough that you wrote about them. That means a lot to be carried in someone's thoughts beyond the time-bound interaction. Thank you for this simple slice of beauty today.

I love your form here, Anita! At first I thought it was a Pantoum - your poem has the repetition like a Pantoum in places, so effective at taking us to the place and helping us feel the pace of the scurry to get items and in the midst of it all realize that we are a bit preoccupied, forgetful in moments with all the other details of life flying around us.

Why can't life always be like this? People doing the right thing, honesty, going out of our way for others? Small gestures like the one you described goes a long way and can change the trajectory of one's day.

The pace, mood, tone, and message all come through in this beautifully crafted piece. Word choice matters and did it perfectly. Thank you for sharing.

What a caring cashier! I loved this poem...the brevity of each line accentuates the rush you were in, capturing the real spirit of your shopping trip, I think.
